RiverPlex Pool Closure: 2022

RiverPlex Members:

This summer will bring another round of intense repair work that needs to be completed in the AquaPlex! Unfortunately, that area of the RiverPlex will be closed starting May 31, 2022. We anticipate a re-opening in early September. The rest of the RiverPlex will remain open during this time.

While closed, we invite you to visit the outdoor swimming complex at the Greater Peoria Family YMCA. If you haven’t visited the YMCA yet, we hope this summer will be an opportunity for you to utilize this perk of your membership. The pool complex is the largest outdoor complex in Peoria and includes a 6-lane, 50 meter pool; two 1-meter diving boards; and wading pool. The pool is open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.

We understand that this is an inconvenience and we hope you understand that the work that will go on behind-the-scenes is important. When the AquaPlex reopens, you’ll find many necessary updates to the area including painting and resurfacing. The ceiling, ductwork and walls will all be painted, which includes scaffolding being built to the ceiling. Once that is completed, all pool basins will be completely resurfaced.

An essential and often overlooked part of our duty as stewards of the park district is to maintain- and to replace when necessary- infrastructure. This annual maintenance is critical to the long-term success of the facility and these closures, while temporary, ensure that the facility will remain operational for years to come.
