Silver Sneakers Program
Have you heard about Silver Sneakers through Humana insurance? OSF at the RiverPlex has contracted with a company called Healthways to provide memberships to people who qualify for a program called ‘Silver Sneakers’. Silver Sneakers is an exercise program that many insurance companies will include as part of your covered benefits. Here at the RiverPlex that means you can become a member of OSF’s Medical Exercise Program at no out-of-pocket cost to you. Your Humana insurance covers this cost! If you have not received a Silver Sneakers Membership card in the mail, call your insurance company to find out if your plan includes Silver Sneakers.
Why doesn’t my insurance pay for my membership when my doctor referred me?
Joining the OSF Medical Exercise Program is just like joining a health club. Traditionally, insurance does not pay for health club memberships but because regular exercise benefits your health, your doctor may be encouraging you to become a member.
Why do I need a doctor’s referral?
Your doctor’s referral is required before joining the OSF Medical Exercise Program because this is a medically supervised exercise program. Having a referral from your doctor ensures that we know how best to serve you and allows your doctor to include any restrictions you may have for exercise.
How does my doctor send a referral?
Your doctor may send a referral through your electronic medical record (EPIC) if he/she is an OSF physician, or you may pick up a paper referral form from the OSF staff and drop it off to your doctor’s office. They can then fax it back to us and we will call you.
