If you are curious about what foods are in season in other regions of the United States take a look at this link. You can determine what produce is seasonal within your region. Each region has specific produce that are planted to fit their environment and climate.

Why it’s healthy for you?

According to the Seasonal Food Guide, seasonal foods are fresher, tastier, and more nutritious than any food consumed out of season. When crops are picked at the peak of ripeness they have a better taste and are full of flavor. Studies show that fruits and vegetables contain more nutrients when allowed to ripen naturally.

One example of produce that is in season right now is dark leafy greens, like cabbage, spinach, or kale. These are enriched with vitamins, minerals and fibers. Eating dark leafy greens can reduce your risk of obesity, heart disease, and high blood pressure.

If you are interested in purchasing any of these seasonal produce, head on over to the Riverfront Market. It is open every Saturday morning from May 18 – September 28 at 8 a.m. to Noon.
