What is Mindfulness?
According to mindful.org, mindfulness is to be fully present, aware of where you are and what you are doing, and not being overwhelmed by what’s going on around you.
How it’s helpful for children?
Mindfulness can be beneficial for children. It can help decrease any anxiety a child may have and increase happiness. Some children go through emotional, social, and physical challenges. Mindfulness can help offer relief from those difficulties they encounter in their life.
Practicing mindfulness can help the children focus on what is important to them and not worry about the little things in their life. As a child, you don’t want to have all that stress and worry. Teaching the children about mindfulness and yoga at a young age can serve to be beneficial as they grow up. They will be able to take what they learned and anytime something stressful occurs they can practice these techniques.

If you are interested in having your children practice yoga and have fun, the Peoria Playhouse Museum is having a class every Monday during the summer from 10-10:30am for ages 3-10.
Cost is $2.50 per child with museum admission/membership. This class will be taught by Vickie, one of the Riverplex’s employees. They will learn mindfulness through yoga, play, stories, and games. Everything they learn in these classes can be enjoyed at home as well.
