OSF Weight Management Program
Have you tried losing weight before and you just haven’t found the success you’ve wanted? Maybe you’re just starting your weight loss journey, but you want to ensure when you start, you’re making every second count! A lot of people come to the RiverPlex seeking to lose weight, but a large portion of those people discount how much sleep and nutrition have to do with them having success.
A huge partner in our facility and a large reason why many members have seen success is OSF’s weight management program. The amount of resources available in our facility through OSF goes unknown to many. So, we wanted to speak to much of what they do when it comes to weight loss. The best way to do this is to walk you through each avenue they have available.
No matter what route you end up choosing everyone starts at the same place. You must start by visiting your primary care physician and letting them know you are interested in speaking with a dietitian at the RiverPlex; which would be called a weight management referral (referral number 0065). Once the referral code comes to OSF at the RiverPlex, the call center will contact you to set up a first visit.
When you meet with one of the OSF providers in your first visit they will walk you through the three different avenues available for weight loss – HMR, surgical weight loss and medically supervised weight loss. This appointment may last between 30-60 minutes.
After confirming which route sounds most ideal for you and your goals you will have subsequent visits with a dietitian and the APN you saw at your first appointment. These subsequent visits will occur monthly.
Medically Supervised Weight Loss
If the medically supervised weight loss program seems most appropriate for you and your goals, you will be scheduled with one of six of OSF’s dietitians. The call center will simply see which dietitian has the first opening matching your availability and put you with them. However, if you have a specific dietitian you’d like to work with, let them know. Your first visit will be about 60 minutes in length. You will meet monthly with both your dietitian and the original provider you saw.
This program focuses on the patient’s goals. You learn about the fundamentals of hydration, meal timing, portion control and sleep. It’s very well rounded focusing on everything the patient can be doing to shave any bit of weight off in a healthy and sustainable way. All goals are always behavior centered goals.
There is always an option to meet with an exercise specialist if you’d like. These appointments will look similar to the meetings with the dietitians; however, the focus will be centered on exercise. These appointments will also be monthly, if needed. These appointments are very helpful for those that are unsure of exercises available for you if you have specific limitations.
HMR or Health Management Resources
If during your first initial visit you show interest in the HMR program, you will meet with a dietitian to learn everything you need to know about how to start!
HMR has been rated #1 by U.S. News and World Reports as the best, fastest weight loss program. It results in quick, healthy weight loss with HMR shakes, entrees and at least five servings of fruits and vegetables each day. You’ll learn simple ways to become more active and make the right food choices in every situation. Choose the option that works for you:
· In-clinic option: includes HMR foods, weekly classes, individual support and accountability. Transition to home cooked foods with the help of a dietitian.
· At-home option: includes HMR foods and support materials, with a home delivery option.

· Your Body Mass Index (BMI) is greater than 40,
· Or, your BMI is greater than 35 and you have diabetes, high blood pressure, or sleep apnea.
·And, you are under the age of 70.
OSF is partnered with Peoria Surgical Group to provide three types of weight loss surgery, along with education and support to make this a successful journey.
